BRIDES PLANNING WEDDINGS - BEWARE!!! I am an out of town bride who recently got married in South Bend. My husband’s family is also from out of town so I had a large wedding party block and decided to book with the Doubletree. This hotel has been the absolute bane of my existence since I signed my contract in December 2025. The incompetence almost drove me insane. This hotel was outright scamming my guests. My contract stated that my block rate was $159 per night and those who arrived 2 days early or stayed 2 days beyond my agreed upon dates would have the block rate applied. That absolutely did not happen and many of my guests who arrived on Thursday were charged the regular rate instead of the discounted block rate for that evening. This happened to my maid of honor and my in-laws. I was also promised complimentary parking for my guests and many of them were told they would have to pay - which was a problem I also had to take time out of my busy wedding weekend to rectify. If there were zero stars to give, I would. From the time I checked in there was nothing but issues. The lobby was hot and not climate controlled, in August! There was a system outage at check in, and the front desk staff had no idea how to handle check ins that were not electronic. They offered to check my luggage, and when I told them I needed to get ready to be somewhere by a certain time, they suggested I take my items with me. Finally a manager had me write my confirmation number and name on a legal pad and I was assigned a room. There was no apology or offer of anything to compensate this experience. The room itself was nice, but the floor had a strong smell of mold and the ice machine was out of order. I brought back some food to my room, and to my surprise there was no refrigerator! This amenity is listed on the site. Additionally, I needed to print something and though they advertise a business center, there is not one. The second night my key stopped working, they said my room had been checked out and I was assigned to a different room in their system. I recently stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel South Bend during a significant heat wave. While the guest rooms remained comfortable, the hotel lost air conditioning in its common areas, including the large atrium. Unfortunately, the atrium became extremely hot, making them unsuitable for conducting business meetings. Because I needed a climate-controlled space, I reached out to Tawn Horton, the Director of Sales & Marketing, hoping to find a quick solution. Given the circumstances, I was looking for a greater sense of urgency in addressing the issue. Although I was eventually offered a meeting room, it was not unlocked when our group arrived. As a result, we had to coordinate access, and if someone stepped outside, they could not re-enter without someone letting them back in. The room also remained quite warm, so it did not provide the comfortable meeting environment we needed. As a business traveler, reliable and comfortable meeting facilities are essential. Ultimately, I relocated our meeting to another hotel that was able to accommodate our group with a properly air-conditioned meeting room, Wi-Fi, and a comfortable environment. Overall not a bad hotel, but not amazing. The location is very good, right in the middle of downtown. Parking was free and accessible. The free cookies and friendly staff at the front desk was a plus. The pool was broken, but the gym has good equipment. The hallways of the hotel were 80 degrees, but the room AC worked well. The room itself wasn't anything special. The cleaning service didn't really do anything except make the bed, they didn't even sweep or look too hard, because they missed the dead cockroach by the AC unit. Hopefully they got it before the next person uses that room.
